COTSWOLDs: FIELD & FOLK

Having held an interest in the film and television industry for many years, inspiring the half of my degree in Film Studies, I was thrilled to have the opportunity to be a runner for a segment of the upcoming documentary: ‘Cotswolds: Field & Folk’, directed and produced by the brilliant Tea Smart. The team were so kind in allowing me to witness and help out with their beautiful vision. I assisted with setting up shots in various different locations, both indoor and outdoor. Whilst interviewing local farmer and shop owner Lydia Handy I wa staught how to hold the boom and recorded the sound, and whilst interviewing the Cotswolds Glorious Grasslands Team I kept the lighting set up steady and adapted to the moving sun. I look forward to seeing the finished film and greatly admire the sustainable ethos behind its production.

Tinopolis Group

Upon moving to London, I went into the Tinopolis Group offices to meet with COO Naomi Carter who kindly agreed to pass my CV on to several of the group’s production companies. I was taken on by Mentorn Media to act as a freelance runner and tasked with finding boxes of specific tapes needed for a new commission but unfortunately lost in their storage centre. I travelled into Guildford each day to move around boxes and sort through tapes in search of the correct footage. Alongside the search, I also updated Mentorn’s master spreadsheet to correctly reflect box location numbers and content where possible.

Under the Tinopolis Group I also had the pleasure of being the runner for a comical cyber security video produced by Video Arts. The production was filmed in the Tinopolis offices so I spent time preparing the set and working alongside the art department to ensure the office aesthetics were correct. I particularly enjoyed working on decorating the ‘IT Room’ to accompany the characterisation of the ‘IT guy.’ During the two days of filming, I was first on set and last to leave, ensuring that all of the cast and crew had what they needed during the day. I hugely enjoyed working with such talented people and helping out with a large variation of tasks. My time spent talking with the art department has also inspired me to look into opportunities in set decoration for film and television as a potential career path.
